The Heart and Soul of our shop Ron Linhardt, who founded Arvada Square Barbers, now Retro Barbers LLC. He still works at the shop and we respect and admire him greatly. A pillar of the community he is widely portrayed as a man with high morals and dignity and of course, one top notch barber and customized knife maker for hunting and sports.
Most of his knives are made of ATS-34 stainless steel tempered by Paul Bos hot treating to 60-61 Rockwell hardness. He has used these knives on elk, deer, mountain goats, antelope, caribou, etc. The edge holding is great. One of the reasons he took up with the knife making was that the knives I used before always needed sharpening halfway through the cleaning of the animals. No such thing with ATS-34 blades.
He get's together with his brother Edward in Spirit Lake, Iowa to make the Damascus blades. He has the equipment and know-how to forge the steel together. Ron can heat-treat the steel in his own forge.
The leather work he does himself. All hand stitched and treated with a hot wax and oil mix. The sheaths are very durable.
The wood he uses for handles is usually fancy grade, stabilized burls and some India stag and elk antlers.

Ron's custom durable, hand forged Knives and Blade sharpening for hunting and fishing. The knives are incredible and nothing short of a piece of art. They are masterfully made to your specifications and high in demand. A must have for the hunting and fishing seasons.
A little fun never hurt anybody. Daisy, the owner's dog, applied for a sharpening apprenticeship. She came well prepared but was not hired.
All Things change except Barbers, the ways of Barbers, and the surroundings of Barbers. These never change. What one experiences in a Barber's shop the first time he enters one is what he always experiences in Barber's shops afterward till the end of his days. --- Mark Twain ---
The bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweetness of low prices is forgotten. (Leon M. Cautillo)
Contrary to rumors that have been spread by certain people about our moving or closing the shop, this is totally untrue. As a matter of fact, come Tuesday 9/27/2016 we will have our shop back to normal with new barbers at your disposal. You will like the new staff, experienced and true Barbers, not just hair cutters. We will maintain a level of expertise which is expected from our clientele. We have been granted a new opportunity, better than ever before. Thank you for your patronage.
Meet Mick, the original owner of Retro Barbers. He opened the shop in 1958 and sold it to Ron in 1963.
Here we are, 58 years later and Mick is still a customer. This should tell you about our legacy. We have had many ups and downs in all the years, yet we have prevailed and will do so with the loyalty of our beloved customers. Thank you for allowing us to serve you and your children and grand children. Your team at Retro Barbers.
